January 6, 13, 20, 27 and February 3
6 to 8 p.m. – Menomonie Public Library Meeting Room
Get introduced to the tools necessary to use the amazing “maker space” on the UW-Stout campus. In this class you will learn the design tools necessary for using 3D printers and the FAB LAB equipment. The course is intended to familiarize the student to 2D and 3D modeling and digital design. Participants will receive “hands on” training in a lab type setting and gain an understanding of orthographic projections, pictorial drawings, and revolutions. Using Google SketchUp Make (free download at Google), participants will develop a basic understanding of a CAD system and the techniques that are essential for real world prototyping and fabrication. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop and to gain access to Google SketchUp Make software prior to the first class. This class is a prerequisite for Introduction to FAB LAB Equipment andHow to Make Almost Anything which will be held in 2014. Class is limited to 12 participants, so sign up soon. This class is sponsored and supported by the Menomonie Public Library.
The Discovery Center FAB LAB is a global network of labs for creative and innovative people to design, prototype and build things. The FAB LAB provides access to a variety of tools, including computer-aided design (CAD) and desktop manufacturing technologies (laser engraver, 3D printer, mini-mill, vinyl cutter, CNC router), to help bring your ideas to life. The Introduction to Design for Digital Fabrication is first in a series of classes introducing community members to digital design and fabrication.
