Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts Kicks Off THE BIG READ: THE GREAT GATSBY April 4th
The Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts is proud to present Belle Amour-a 1920s era jazz ensemble-for a free community concert on Thursday, April 4 at 7:30 PM. Belle Amour is a fun, high energy jazz group that performs a mix of classic American 20s and 30s jazz standards with a touch of international flair. Belle Amour transports audiences to a vintage era. The band is anchored by the very talented husband and wife duo of Jason and Katie Craft. The Belle Amour jazz concert is sponsored by Peoples State Bank.
The concert is part of the kickoff for The Big Read, which will include a lecture about F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Great Gatsby, andthe distribution of 250 copies of the book to members of the community.
The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The Big Read 2013 Menomonie is a partnership between the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts and the Menomonie Public Library that features community reads and events related to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. All Big Read events are free.
Patrons can reserve their complimentary tickets for the Belle Amour concert and other Big Read events by visiting the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts Box Office during Box Office hours: Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
The Big Read kickoff will commence at 6:30 PM with a lecture by Dr. Joan Navarre, Assistant Professor of English and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, entitled, “Gatsby Reconsidered: A Look Back at the Jazz Age.” Free copies of The Great Gatsby will be distributed in the Public Room following the lecture. The Belle Amour concert will begin at 7:30 PM in the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts theater.
